What is CyanogenMod?

This is a highly customizable 2.3.7 (Gingerbread) ROM for the Cliq/Dext. CyanogenMod is an aftermarket firmware for a number of cell phones based on the open-source Android operating system. It offers features not found in the official Android based firmwares of vendors of these cell phones.

I am not responsible for any damage to your device. I am a novice Developer learning along the way. Not all my changes are beneficial to our device. I learn of the issues rather quickly and try to fix them promptly.
You should have some knowledge of rooting and flashing ROM's before attempting. This is not for the novice user. If you have issues it is most likely a bad flash, hardware issue, or some ghost left in your device. These phones are stubborn and like to fight change. Flashing nightlies tend to fix stubborn issues.
If you have issues please provide logs. This will help determine issues.

For issues that don't lead to reboots:
Easy way:

download alogcat from market.
Run app
Reproduce the issue
Save the log in alogcat
Paste the output to pastebin.com, submit and paste the resulting URL to the thread with a brief description

Random reboots
Open Terminal Emulator app
type:

su
cat /proc/last_kmsg > /sdcard/kmsg.txt

You will find the kmsg.txt on the root of your SD card.
Paste the resulting log to pastebin.com, submit, and paste the resulting URL to the thread.

  • Download latest update: Download Link
  • Download super-wipe.zip: http://www.mediafire.com/?x4dteoqsonzkr9n
  • Put both on the root of your SD card.
  • Boot to your recovery
  • Flash super-wipe.zip first
  • Wipe data/factory reset
  • Flash latest update
  • Fix permissions
  • Reboot.
  • After boot let it settle for 10 minutes.
  • Open Rom Manager.
  • Press menu and select manual flash override and ok. Select Motorola Cliq then clockworkmod 3.x
  • Go to "Download ROM>Google Apps
  • Download latest Google Apps (top)
  • After download a window will pop up.
  • Leave Wipe Dalvik checked. I recommend Backup as well.
  • The rest will be automated assuming you flashed ClockworkMod Recovery
Updating from previous build

SD card update

  • Place it on the root of your SD for simplicity.

If you have a legitimate Rom Manager Premium. Open Rom Manager and "Check for ROM Updates" for even more ease.

The latest changelog:

Log in using Setup Wizard. You'll get a check-list to download some of the important apps.
(Setup Wizard might loop back to android after setup. press the home button and launchers should show.)
Please enable CMStats. The little icon in the upper left corner. It's anonymous.
Install the launcher of your choice if you like.
Go into /settings/cyanogenmod settings/performance and disable compcache
Put a check by "Lock home in memory.
Some say to keep surface dithering disabled. I enable mine. I don't like the gradient banding. I haven't found it to impact performance much.
Set your CPU governor the way you like.
Reboot so that it could finish binding your settings.
Using Titanium Backup? Do not restore system settings. It will break things like WiFi.
Calibrate your battery. Download and install this app: http://www.mediafire.com/?5wib3m3afp2hem1 Charge your battery to 100% and press the calibration button in the app. To simplify things. :-)

For troubles with Superuser, flash this in recovery:http://www.mediafire.com/?1wntnrjuluk853w

trying to root sgs2 need help!! http://www.simply-android.com/discussion/1894/trying-to-root-sgs2-need-help Wed, 01 Feb 2012 08:23:14 -0500 troutslayermv 1894@/discussions Dext 3G Fixed http://www.simply-android.com/discussion/1770/dext-3g-fixed Sat, 22 Oct 2011 07:33:15 -0400 ferjs 1770@/discussions Hello!
A fews weeks ago I unlocked my motorola dext (Movistar Argentina with 5025 baseband) following this guide [CLIQ/CLIQ XT/BACKFLIP] Unlock and I lost 3G because it was an T-Mobile version with different baseband (5036) WCDMA: 900/1700/2100, and in my country we use 850/1900/2100.

I´ve searched in all the forums and realized it was almost impossible to restore the lost 3G freq. (I´ve tried everthing, reflashing the roms that are in the Firmwares superthread here CLIQ & DEXT firmwares Superthread, settingthe APN, etc).

I´ve noticed that even if I could change the baseband to 5025/5036, the 3G 850mhz freq was not restored (as it was reported by many users in these forums).

Then I found that a new chinese firmware was released for the Motorola Quench/CliqXt that could fix the 3g problem of those phones (Desbloqueo Del Quench! (Tutorial Completo) - Grupo Android).
Today I used the SBF depacker to depack this firmware and the italian one that is found here 1.3.41 - Retail Italy - Downloads - ModMyMobile Forums and changed the cefs.mbn taking the one from the chinese CliqXt/Quench firmware... Then I built the SBF and flashed... and... The 3G is BACK!

I have uploaded the sbf to dropbox. Maybe it can be usefull for people with similar problems... As I was using CyanogenMod 7, first had to do a backup, then flashed the firmware using Rsd Lite 4.6... It has installed the 1.5 android version... Then rooted the phone, installed custom recovery and restored my backup...

Everething is working perfect! With 3G!

Here you can find the firmware I´ve built (with Android 1.5, Italian version, that includes the Quench cefs.mbn) Dropbox - firm dext - Simplify your life

Use it at your own risk!

Greetings!

Restore your 3G after flashing the wrong firmware? http://www.simply-android.com/discussion/542/restore-your-3g-after-flashing-the-wrong-firmware Fri, 03 Dec 2010 13:56:56 -0500 HandlerExploit 542@/discussions Quoting cmstlist :
I don't own a Defy but I do own a Milestone. It looks like, from all the chatter I've read, there is still no T-Mo US firmware SBF yet. Some Americans seem to have become trapped with a foreign firmware on their handset which does not support American 3G bands.

In Milestone-land we have all the SBFs we need, but we also found a workaround to enable proper 3G on devices mis-flashed with ROMs that were meant for Euro frequencies. Maybe you guys can tell me if the Defy is similarly designed.

On the Milestone, the folder /etc/motorola/bp_nvm_default contains a number of files including these:
File_Audio
File_Audio2
File_GSM
File_Seem_Flex_Tables
generic_pds_init

If you back up these files from your original ROM (e.g. using Root Explorer), and then restore them on the new ROM after rooting, and reboot, the correct 3G behaviour returns to the Milestone.

According to another user on XDA (where I cross-posted the same content as this thread), the same folder exists on the Defy with some of the same file names.

So if you have a US or Brazil Defy and lost 3G because you're stuck on a Euro firmware... proceed with caution... you *may* be able to get your 3G back by replacing some files with ones that came from a USA or Brazil system dump.

Since I don't actually own a Defy... feel free to report results in this thread, and to suggest what to do and what not to do!

I can confirm that this works, I have done it on my US Defy

I'm from Venezuela, acquired in my MB200 dext version, with the 5025 radio release and the release although I spoke to upload this rom to flash "mamba 2.0.Psupermonster morrison tmo customer" is Russian. I did was change my cliq MB200 in the baseband left him in 5036 though it was the operator I wanted to use that uses the 5025, release him and stay in 5036 but had some problems when the phone signal lasted a little idle. he lost all signal. for example at night while sleeping, lost all the baseband signal. clarified that since I solved this problem, I have the 5025 baseband back down the signal problem and can once again told me the 3g rom could not recover. Now what I want is simple, after much searching and not found anything to help me only this: the operator that sold me the phone is of 850 MHz but as it is very bad, release the phone to use it in a better working at 900MHz . and what is found that of the baseband 850 is 5025 and that of 900 is 5036. my concern now, someone could help me with certainty whether flashing the radio until 5036 could have 3g on 900mHz ?? only the baseband or would have to install a new rom that has the baseband native 5036]]> [Kernel] Bali v2.2 (SK4G) by Dr. Honk (XDA) http://www.simply-android.com/discussion/1762/kernel-bali-v2.2-sk4g-by-dr.-honk-xda Sun, 16 Oct 2011 01:45:47 -0400 john_2k2 1762@/discussions This kernel is based on the original Bali Kernel for Vibrant 3G. Prepare the Build Environment
NOTE: You only need to do these steps the first time you build. If you previously prepared your build environment, skip to Copy proprietary files

Install the ADB

Install the Android SDK.

Install the Build Packages
Install using the package manager of your choice:

For 32-bit & 64-bit systems:

sudo apt-get install git-core gnupg flex bison gperf libsdl1.2-dev libesd0-dev libwxgtk2.6-dev squashfs-tools build-essential zip curl libncurses5-dev zlib1g-dev sun-java6-jdk pngcrush schedtool

For 64-bit only systems:

sudo apt-get install g++-multilib lib32z1-dev lib32ncurses5-dev lib32readline5-dev gcc-4.3-multilib g++-4.3-multilib

NOTE: gcc-4.3-multilib g++-4.3-multilib is no longer available for Ubuntu 11.04 64-bit, but should still build without issue.
NOTE: On Ubuntu 10.10, and variants, you need to enable the parter repository to install sun-java6-jdk:

add-apt-repository "deb http://archive.canonical.com/ maverick partner"

Create the Directories
You will need to set up some directories in your build environment.
To create them:

mkdir -p ~/bin
mkdir -p ~/android/system

Install the Repository
Enter the following to download make executable the "repo" binary:

curl https://dl-ssl.google.com/dl/googlesource/git-repo/repo > ~/bin/repo
chmod a+x ~/bin/repo

NOTE: You may need to reboot for these changes to take effect.
Now enter the following to initialize the repository:

cd ~/android/system/
repo init -u git://github.com/CyanogenMod/android.git -b gingerbread
repo sync -j16

Copy proprietary files
NOTE: This only needs done the first time you build. If you have already done these steps, you may skip to Download RomManager.
You will need to have a Morrison with a working copy of CyanogenMod install and ADB working on the computer. This script will copy the proprietary files from the device.

Connect the device to the computer and ensure that ADB is working properly.

cd ~/android/system/device/motorola/morrison/
./extract-files.sh

NOTE: If some hardware isn't working, like camcorder or FM radio, you will need to find the updated prop blobs.

Download RomManager
NOTE: This only needs to be done when an update to RomManager is released. If you are-up-to date, you may skip to Building CyanogenMod.
Download RomManager which is needed by the build:

~/android/system/vendor/cyanogen/get-rommanager

Building CyanogenMod
First, check for updates in the source:

cd ~/android/system/
repo sync

Configure Build & Compile
Now, the environment must be configured to build and the ROM compiled, from code, for the Morrison.

. build/envsetup.sh && brunch morrison

Install
Copy your .zip file from ~/android/system/out/target/product/morrison/update.cm-XXXXX-signed.zip to the root of the SD card.
Optional: Download Google Apps for CyanogenMod 7 and place it on the root of the SD card.

How To Unlock Motorola Quench XT3? http://www.simply-android.com/discussion/1517/how-to-unlock-motorola-quench-xt3 Tue, 12 Jul 2011 05:53:14 -0400 ronaldweasly 1517@/discussions To unlock a Motorola Quench XT3 you will need an unlock code. Our Motorola Quench XT3 unlock guide has the steps to unlock your mobile phone to any GSM carrier or network. By default, most SIM card based phones have a SIM lock preventing form working with any phone carrier other then the accepted one. Therefore first off you will probably need an unlock code for your Motorola Quench XT3. You can sometimes get a free Motorola unlock code by calling up your current carrier and simply asking for one. They will probably need your Motorola Quench XT3′s IMEI number in order to generate the unlock code. You can find the IMEI number by typing in *#06# on your phone and hitting the send key.

After getting your Motorola Quench XT3 unlock code follow the steps below:

How To Unlock A Motorola Quench XT3

1. Reboot your Motorola mobile phone with an unaccepted SIM card in.
*If the display reads “Enter Special Code”, enter the unlock code and press “OK”
*If the display does not read “Enter Special code”:
2. Press and hold the asterisk (*) key until an entry box is displayed.
3. Type *, #, 3, 2, # and press “OK”
4. Enter your Motorola unlock code and press “OK.”
5. Your Motorola mobile should now display either “Completed” or
“Deleted”

If you still need help after following the free steps above, then please feel free to post a comment below this guide. Good luck!

Droid Razr Maxx and all Android Super Phones :) http://www.simply-android.com/discussion/1893/droid-razr-maxx-and-all-android-super-phones- Sat, 28 Jan 2012 17:33:22 -0500 gtmaster303 1893@/discussions I think the Maxx looks even better without that stupid hump on the back. I would feel terrible if I bought the first phone and a little betrayed.
I think phone tech is moving too fast now, and for almost no productive reasons at all. Spec wars are great, but a single core high clock phone is just as zippy on a daily basis as any dual core.

What do you guys think?
What will happen once all phones that come out are more powerful than what a user needs and there is no reason to upgrade unless hardware fails?
I feel this point is coming very soon.

Publishing an App Inventor App on the Android Market. http://www.simply-android.com/discussion/531/publishing-an-app-inventor-app-on-the-android-market. Thu, 02 Dec 2010 09:17:54 -0500 Toxigenicpoem 531@/discussions
Make sure you have all the tools

Pre Step: Note You Can Skip This Step If You Already Sign Android Applications For The Market
To Sign android applications for the market you will need a Private Key, used by jarsigner in the Java JDK. This is the basic process to create a KeyStore - I will not list every Operating System here, this is a very basic explanation for Windows Users.

Pre.A: CD to the JDK/bin path. (c:\program files\sun\jdk 1.6\bin)

Pre.B: Run the following command to create a key to sign your apps with for release on the market. Hint: Change the AliasName to something easy to remember. You can also change the keystore name to create. Once this file is created, BACK IT UP, its good practice not to lose the key :) .

keytool.exe -genkey -v -keystore my-release-key.keystore -alias aliasname -keyalg RSA -keysize 2048 -validity 10000

Step 1: Create your application in App Inventor, go through your paces with testing and get something ready you want to publish and release to the masses. Don't start this tutorial to make a Whack A Nerdy game ;-), give us something good! Do all the work to make your app in App Inventor. Including icon work etc.

Step 2: Package your application to Download to the Local Computer.

Step 3: Open a Command Window/Terminal Window. With the Unpacked apkTool we will decompile the APK without decompiling source. The apk will be extracted into the the directory you are currently in. I recommend creating a folder and dumping APKTOOL into it, as well as your APK you are working on. Then CD into that directory and run the command.

APKTOOL d -s YOURAPKNAME.apk

Step 4: Edit the Manifest, this will be located in a folder with the same name as your APK, the file is called AndroidManifest.xml this is the guy that isn't being built correctly. We need to add a few Attributes, Remove one, and Move one, and add a tag. Lets begin!

4.a
<manifest package="appinventor.InventorName.AppName"
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
   android:versionCode = "1"
   android:versionName = "1.0"
    android:installLocation="auto">

You need to add the portions that are bolded, to the MANIFEST tag. versionCode and versionName are required for Android Market to determine the versioning of your application, this is used when pushing out updates for your app, modify them if this is an update.
installLocation is used to allow your app to be placed on the SD Card for Froyo+ users.

4b. You need to specify which version of Android your application will run on Minimally. Add the following line directly below the Manifest Tag (the one we worked on above). You can find a list of SdkVersion and Android Versions here
   <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="3" />

4c. Now we need to fix a broken Icon Reference, or App Market will spit on your submission! Currently the line looks something like this.
  <activity android:label="AppName"  android:icon="@drawable/ya"  android:name=".Screen1">

Cut the attribute android:icon="@drawable/ya" so that it is no longer in that line. Then paste it into the line below, and remove android:debuggable at the same time.

                  <application android:label="AppName"  android:debuggable="true">

Your new manifest should look like this.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<manifest package="appinventor.InventorName.AppName"
  xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
  android:versionCode = "1"
  android:versionName = "1.0"
  android:installLocation="auto">
<uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="3" />
  ..
        <application android:label="AppName" android:icon="@drawable/ya">
        <activity android:label="AppName"  android:name=".Screen1">
            ..
        </activity>
     ..
    </application>
</manifest>

Internet stops working when switched to or from wifi http://www.simply-android.com/discussion/339/internet-stops-working-when-switched-to-or-from-wifi Wed, 27 Oct 2010 14:11:29 -0400 rrittenhouse 339@/discussions
If I start up the phone with wifi enabled and connected to a WIFI AP it will get online just fine. If I turn WIFI off after that and go back to Edge then I can't get anywhere until I reboot.

If I start it up with WIFI off I can get everywhere until I turn on WIFI then it all dies. If you turn off WIFI it starts working again.

I took handlers advice on twitter and wiped it and re-flashed it and it still does the same thing out of the box for me.

Ideas?

BTW Thank you handler for all of your AWESOME hard work!]]>
