Which version should I install?

If one were to dual boot a computer with Windows XP and Linux(to try and begin deving) which version of Linux would be best?  Already started installing 11.10 on my second partition but after starting to read about setting up the SDK and Java it seems that earlier versions work better/easier to work with. I need the OS to be as simple as possible as my experience with Linux is very limited to say the least lol.

I've got a kitchen(dsixda) set up on the XP through Cygwin but everything I read is about using Linux so thought I would dual boot my comp but now I'm not so sure lol, already getting mixed messages about which version to use...so how about it guys and girls, go with 11.10 or get an earlier version?

I'd go with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. It will require no extra steps to work with. Android only officially works with 10.043 so anything later will always require more steps.

Ubuntu is because it is the best to work with for noobs like us ;) Linux Mint is nice, but when installing stuff it may throw in a few errors which could possibly confuse.

Thanks @JassyCliq that's the version I've been reading about also so that's the one I will install. Was just hoping someone someone into deving would confirm it. Now to get the dual boot properly set up without messing up my whole comp lol, so many guides.... guess the best one would be the official one on their website.

if you want a guide for adb i can point you to a real good one.

Or you can also have a script set it all up for you

That would be great and very appreciated, thank you.

Thank you so much. I've been reading the Lazymans guide but it looks like I might follow the rootzwiki one. Got to work the next couple nights backshift but hopefully I will have this up and running by the end of the week.
