trying to root sgs2 need help!!
  • my phone has 2.3.6 on it and due to bugs in this update I want to root. I tried using zergrush tool kit but it wont work on 2.3.6...I ran it 5times ! says its working and installing su then reboots my phone and nothing is there. no su, no root wtf? I don't want to use Odin and flash a different kernel (even tho a different kernel may run a lot cooler) . the version I used was v4 is there another program that might work? any suggestions?

There aren't any ROMs that come rooted that are flashable through Odin?

And the easiest way would be to Odin a kernel that has ClockWorkMod (recovery) and then flash the su binary/app through recovery.

  • I don't want to use Odin. just want a program like zergrush so I don't use the flash counter or change kernels

just use a jig, its bypasses the flash counter iirc

as far as apps, they're only created on need. If its fairly simple to root your device (flashing kernel + flash su binary/app) then they usually don't make apps. So chances are if you haven't heard of an app then there isnt.

They also have a flash counter reseter...if that makes any sense. I haven't rooted my SGS2..I have been doing my fair share of reading just in case...

  • I know that if bricked the sgs2 is one of the easy one's to bring back and there is a jig to reset the flash counter but for me Odin and finding kernels ? maybe stable maybe not? no way! zergrush was the one thing I was willing to try do to its simplicity. root/unroot. no Odin no jig no BS. I'm ordering an extended battery to try and fix a few of my issues and waiting for ether a stock ics or truly stable cm9. I wish I never updated but what's done is done I guess.

the chance of bricking is high and once the kernel is flashed wifi wont work. I just want an easy one click stock rom root. no Odin or cf root no BS. I have been looking and still no luck. nothing will root 2.3.6!! maybe zergrush v5 when it comes out but no word on that. wtf? I miss the days of z4root and gingerbreak.

The easiest way to root is using odin. Flash a custom recovery with odin then flash a superuser.zip. I would verify it but my wife won't let me do shit to her phone. But I did do some reading and got all the files ready just incase she gave me the go.

I have downloaded 3 files. one click download root, this shouldn't incriminate my flash counter and work nice and easy. one click download return to stock so if something goes wrong I should be OK and a kernel with cwm. I have mobile Odin so I don't think I need cwm but I will try it out anyway. this should also put me back to 2.3.4 and hopeful fix my heat issues, I have the extended battery and get 16 hours of heavy use and over 24 with moderate so I'm interested to see what I can get with 2.3.4. I will be trying this tomorrow . :-)
