From what I recall, this forgotten (but nice) phone has an encrypted bootloader like other Moto phones. I'd like to start a project to hopefully get by this and allow custom recovery/roms. However, I'm not sure how they unlocked/bypassed the other phones with RSA(?) encryption. If I knew this, I'd have a place to start. Could anyone here point me in the right direction?
There was apparently some effort at doing this a while ago, but it appears that nothing came of it.
In the meantime...Since the phone has long since gone unsupported...I wonder if I can get a hold of someone at Moto and ask for the key? I figure the chance of succeeding is less than 1%. I'd still like to do it the hard way, mostly as a learning experience. No harm in trying...perhaps when I get free time to put together a well-thought-out message.

The most common method is 2init. There are other ways to get a recovery working but 2init seems to be the best for phones. You can see the work they did with 2init in phones like the Motorola Defy, Motorola Cliq 2 and Motorola Droid X.
