galaxy s2 running really hot!!
  • I have been trying to find a solution to this problem before my motherboard melts but no dice. Samsung wants me to send it in but its software not hardware so if they had a fix were is the patch? I'm pretty sure its a kernel issue so I'm thinking if I root and install a custom kernel maybe it would run cooler. anyone got any ideas???

Are you running any Task Killers? Have you tried a Factory/Data Reset? Does it happen when its plugged in?

  • happens if its plugged in or not. I am stock and not running task manager but I am using a battery saver called battery xl

  • I just got a new battery thought maybe I had a bad battery but its still hot. I had it up to 121 degrees last night playing zynga poker and it never did that when I first got it. I think the update to 2.3.6 changed something

I have a galaxy s2 as well but my battery hasn't been hot at all and I have updated to 2.3.6 as well. Maybe a bad phone?

  • are you rooted? do you play games o
    n it? like modern combat?

  • do you have stock battery?

  • Calz_cliqCalz_cliq January 18

Yeah I'm rooted running cm7 on it. I played modern combat for awhile I didn't really like it but yeah I play some games like zombie rush. And yeah I have stock battery. I haven't overclocked it either.

  • again like I said before the stock kernel is making it hot. I think LOL. you have a different kernel that's why its running cooler then mine. I think rooting might fix it but I need more input before I void my warranty

The stock kernel does make it a bit hot but it might be an app that's the culprit.

technically you wont void your warranty if you don't tell them you rooted it.

BUT a new kernel might be able to fix it, they are usually more optimized and have built in settings to lower the clock speed and so on.For example, faux123 has some great kernels. My phone never runs as hot as it used to on stock with his, and thats with OC and gpu OC :)

  • LOL yeah I'm leaning more towards rooting. I love this phone! just don't like how hot it gets. I think this weekend I'm ordering a jig and as soon as I get some time I'm rooting. do you guys know of an easy method to root this bad boy? I heard something about a mobile Odin?
