Have you tried a factory data reset?

Yes, tried just about anything you can imagine! I still have a rooted phone but that is all. I have no file manager so can not get to the system files, no idea how to set a recovery file, nothing.

You can download an app directly from the web to install. What app are you looking for?

You can use ADB to push and install apps. Are you familiar with it?

I have adb, yes. How do I do this... dl to PC, copy to sd then adb push \sdcard or something?

I want to upgrade to 2.1, so need terminal emulator and rom manager?

OK, trying to install RecoveryFlasher.apk but adb complains it is not a zip file...

Ok if I understand this correctly you have root, but nothing else and market won't work for you. Just went through this the other night on my spare dext.
Step one. Get a custom recovery. Go to the following link and pick a recovery, I recommend j_rodds for now and follow the instructions to install with adb. http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Motorola_Cliq:_Full_Update_Guide
Step two. Get a custom ROM. Follow the same guide at that link to install their ROM but if you want a different ROM just substitute it for thiers in the instrutions.
When your done you should have a working market on the ROM of your choice.
Not sure why but seems market breaks now when you root. I tried everything to get it working on my spare phone but no go until different ROM installed...doesn't make sense but.....

OK, done the CWM recovery with the CyanogenMod but now on reboot all I am getting is the blue line botom of screen with Bootloader USB Init? I can reset with power button but it just then goes back to blue line again... oh dear!

It appears I have a "Motorola Flash Interface" installed in the Device Manager also... need to look into this.

Hmm. Blue line of death it seems... cannot communicate with the phone at all. RSD Lite doesn't see it, adb doesn't see it, Device manager now seeing it as Flash MSM7201A. This does not look very good at all :(

Cannot flash sbf or shx because phone not seen by rsd-lite. Fast running out of ideas here :(

OK, had to manually install Motorola flash interface drivers, then RSD could see the phone, then flashed shx and sbf files and looks OK for now - at least I have a working phone again that can access the Market!

LOL sorry about the troubles. Did you flash the 2.1 sbf?

Not yet, I seem to have restored the phone to the US 1.5... need to get another run up to doing another flash I think. 

Now rooted again... like a bloody yoyo today!

Oh oh - just figured out how to use rsd to do the no radio 2.1 thing... I may be some time :D

You can install it but it won't work I'm afraid. The Cliq doesn't have good enough hardware.
