ROM Manager Premium / SU broken on my CyanogenMod 7 Cliq
  • TrinitionTrinition November 2011

I've been happily running the CM4Morrison variant of CyanogenMod 7 on my Motorola Cliq for months now.  Recently, though, my ROM Manager (Premium) stopped letting me update.  When I launch ROM Manager, it complains:

"You must root your phone for ROM Manager to function.  Superuser was not found at "/system/bin/su" or "/system/xbin/su".  Use Google Search on your computer to find instructions to root your phone."

My phone was rooted a year ago!  I also ran the Superuser app directly, and its Preferences shows:

    Superuser v3.0.6 (40)

    Su binary vnull
    Tap to check for updates

When I have it check for updates, it says:

    Downloading manifest... okay!
    Parsing manifest... okay!
    Latest version = 3.0.3
    Checking installed version = legacy

It prompts me to Update, which yields:

    Fixing database... okay!
    Checking current install path... fail!
Failed to find currently installed su binary.
    Update cannot continue

    Any ideas?

It seems you're using an old SU binary. I'll post a link to the latest zip when I get home in a few.

    Sorry about the wait.

Flash the zip in recovery. That should fix it.

    Thanks, I'll try it now!

    Yes, it worked!  Thanks!

I'm not sure how I got into a screwed-up state.  I wonder if I accidentally did some sort of update of Superuser from the Market?

Most likely. The SU binary would be outdated.

Wow! You say you are using CM4Morrison? That is really outdated. Still I'm pleased you like it.

Well, perhaps I misspoke.  It's still CM4Morrison in mind.  It's actually the nightly CyanogenMod builds.  I was on the Oct 25th build or so and am presently downloading the latest to install (which I couldn't do when su was broken).
