Dext 3G Fixed
  • ferjsferjs October 2011

    Hello!
A fews weeks ago I unlocked my motorola dext (Movistar Argentina with 5025 baseband) following this guide [CLIQ/CLIQ XT/BACKFLIP] Unlock and I lost 3G because it was an T-Mobile version with different baseband (5036) WCDMA: 900/1700/2100, and in my country we use 850/1900/2100.

I´ve searched in all the forums and realized it was almost impossible to restore the lost 3G freq. (I´ve tried everthing, reflashing the roms that are in the Firmwares superthread here CLIQ & DEXT firmwares Superthread, settingthe APN, etc).

I´ve noticed that even if I could change the baseband to 5025/5036, the 3G 850mhz freq was not restored (as it was reported by many users in these forums).

Then I found that a new chinese firmware was released for the Motorola Quench/CliqXt that could fix the 3g problem of those phones (Desbloqueo Del Quench! (Tutorial Completo) - Grupo Android).
Today I used the SBF depacker to depack this firmware and the italian one that is found here 1.3.41 - Retail Italy - Downloads - ModMyMobile Forums and changed the cefs.mbn taking the one from the chinese CliqXt/Quench firmware... Then I built the SBF and flashed... and... The 3G is BACK!

I have uploaded the sbf to dropbox. Maybe it can be usefull for people with similar problems... As I was using CyanogenMod 7, first had to do a backup, then flashed the firmware using Rsd Lite 4.6... It has installed the 1.5 android version... Then rooted the phone, installed custom recovery and restored my backup...

Everething is working perfect! With 3G!

Here you can find the firmware I´ve built (with Android 1.5, Italian version, that includes the Quench cefs.mbn) Dropbox - firm dext - Simplify your life

Use it at your own risk!

    Greetings!
    Fer

HI, I bought my cliq in USA but, know I am in Colombia and for this problems of bands freq, I "loose" my 3g and I can only use the edge, i was thinking if it posible to use this method to let the phone run over 3g again? Here in Colombia which the phones uses the 850 mhz

  • Double0EKDouble0EK October 2011

There's only one way to find out.

  • ngiordanongiordano October 2011

    It should work.

  • JuanDie90JuanDie90 October 2011

Hmmm lets try it lol :D, but i think that tomorrow Im not at home and dont have any pc next to me :s

  • JuanDie90JuanDie90 October 2011

It doesnt work on my phone :(, but i think is because I have to "Homologar" the phone with the operator :o

  • Double0EKDouble0EK October 2011

You have to set the APN for your carrier.

  • JuanDie90JuanDie90 October 2011

of course, that was what I do.

  • JuanDie90JuanDie90 October 2011

Well I dont get that my phone runs 3g but, this method is very simple and fast, I recommend for everyone that want to use this way to do it, obviously by your own risk.

  • SamGTSamGT October 2011

It Does Works..!! I Already tested it on a Venezuelan Dext

  • ferjsferjs October 2011

Great it is working! I´ve been using the phone for a week and it´s working great too!

  • i dont get this does this mean i can use 3g on my tmobile phone which uses att frequencies or what

  • ngiordanongiordano October 2011

No that's not possible. This is for the countries/carriers that did not have the radio available to return 3g after flashing the wrong firmware.

  • thanks man this site is so cool and im only 16 and yet the stuff here seem easy to do i love android custom firmware all the way

Tried to upload to a fresh unlocked T-mobile cliq, this is my first time
modding android, but I couldn't get it to load. I tried with a diff
ROM(brwnMODv.3.0) immediately after and it worked with SU flash at same
time. Also had a couple questions, from reading the description of ROM
this re-flashes the radio to quad band radio??? if so it should work(3G)
on any network? in the US??

  • ngiordanongiordano November 2011

Not so. This is for the services that use 850 MHz for 3G. Most Latin based countries use this band. Some flashed the wrong radio and lost 3G and couldn't get it back till now.

  • 0lLiE0lLiE November 2011

Sooo... if att uses 850&1900mHz a quad band cliq will work on their network?  So with this radio I should have working 3G on 850/1900/2100?  this woulnt work on att network? why? I dont understand.  thanks for any help I can get, will prob try to flash it again this week.  Do all US carriers use wcdma 850/1900? that was the info I found on Wikipedia. 1700 was listed as US but t-mobile & cbw

  • ngiordanongiordano November 2011

Sorry just got out of work. First you need to be carrier unlocked. I don't want to say that it will or won't work. I hate being wrong, and I'm wrong a lot. Technically AT&T uses 850/1900 MHz. This radio should cover that. T-Mobile uses 900/1700/2100 MHz. But again remember your phone needs to be unlocked or it will be useless in the US.

  • 0lLiE0lLiE November 2011

Cool, well that's what I was thinking but I'm new at this.  Yeah it is a T-Mobile branded, it took me like a month to get them to send me the unlock code for it! So I'm using it on ATT now, just edge, no 3g and can use Barnacle on my laptop since I work in BFE and cant get cheap/reliable wi-fi, its just painfully slow on edge. Ill try tomorrow or the next day again and let you know what happens. I also emailed a site TheUnlockr about the ROM, so they may add a link to it for their cliq mods.  Oh one other thing I noticed this is a .rar file and the ROM I used is a .zip file. I believe Winzip works with both types of files but wasnt sure if my (recovery-RA-cliq-v1.5.2)will?  Thanks

  • ngiordanongiordano November 2011

This is not a rom. This it original firmware. You can not flash this in recovery. It is flashed from a PC with a software called RSD Lite. The software is considered warez so you will need to Google it. Also if you do a search on YouTube, for a video on how to unroot your cliq/dext, you can see how to use it. We also have some threads with users personal Q+A's which are helpful. I'll search for it when I wake up and post a link.

Si alguien acá que hable español sube detalladamente los pasos para poder tener 3G de 850 Mhz para Latinoamérica se le agradecería si mostrara como realizar este tutorial. Gracias de antemano.

  • 0lLiE0lLiE November 2011

OK, so i finally got around to flashing this to see if 3G would work on my T-mobile phone on ATT network in the US.  It does not, I still have EDGE but no 3G. interestingly  enough it seemed easier to flash than root the phone. Well I guess now I have to resort to getting ATT to cancel my contract. Thanks for all the help
