Yeah, it must have been two things.
1. You used your phone *ALOT*, your screen was very hot.
2. You were actually using MT.
Well, if it was 1, you need to do this.
Do what @endymion said:
put it in the oven. keep the temp under 220. 30-40 minutes ought to do
it. be sure to remove the battery, sd card, and sim card. let it cool
for awhile too.
OR
Buy a New CLIQ
OR
Buy a New Digitalizer and install it to your phone.
I would go with option #1.
But, if I am correct, you can actually corrupt a touch screen file of your ROM and you could only just use the keypad, which would be frustrating, but possible.
Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately I think the only way to fix it is to replace the digitizer. The reason for lost sections of the screen is generally severed connections. This is why I was so reluctant to release a multi-touch patch, so many don't know the dangers. I Place a warning with mine. Unfortunately others don't :-(
it is fault of the original ROM, motorola did something to the phones start dying after 1 year and a half, i confirmed this same issue with 9 other people using the original system.
if youre using any based on official or using the original one, this is the fault. if youre using a aosp, idk what is...
hope this info helps

---------------
My screen died without any MT or water damage exactly a year and a half since I started using it!!!! Although as an engineer I can say that this is very hard for a company to achieve, especially with such accuracy.
I couldn't see how that could be achieved either. Especially with updates or even rom changes. However I am seeing a lot of hardware damage occuring all at once. Much of it, I believe, is occuring from hardware pushing like OCing and even continuous flashing. It's very possible screen issues could be from corrupt files. But flashing ROM after ROM should fix it eventually. If not I would say it's hardware.
had same problem i just orderd the screen from ebay to open it just youtube how to dissasemble the cliq and here is a ebay link for the screen cheap http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Touch-Screen-Digitizer-Motorola-Cliq-MB200-/150631277993?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item231252e5a9
I started a new job... lots of hours outside in the hot texas sun. The touchscreen has been on steady decline. Never used MT.
