I need a Rom. Anyone care to give me suggestions?
  • PavieePaviee August 2011

Hi, I recently decided to root my Motorola Cliq and so far all the roms that I've used dont work. Some roms had some bug fixes that needed to be fixed and others would make my phone reboot practically every day, sometimes even 3 times a day. The rom I have now is cm7 and its android 2.3.4 but my phone tends to reboot every day. I'm new to this whole rooting phones experimentation, so can anyone suggest me some roms that actually work on the Cliq. Doesn't have to be 2.3.4 or cm7 or pure android(stock), I just want my phone to work and not have it reboot every day. I would like it to be android 2.1 though, or more, if it works. Are there apps that don't work at all on the Cliq? because i tried downloading google music but it would always force close no matter what rom i had. Any advice would be helpful!  :D

If you're getting reboots regardless of the ROMs involved, it's probably a hardware issue. Either that or bad wipes/flashes.

  • jethro650jethro650 August 2011

Did your phone reboot before rooting?

  • ngiordanongiordano August 2011

Are you overclocking? Many phones will not overclock. App conflicts are also another issue. I found that some launchers tend to make my ROM reboot. It's an incompatibility issue. The launchers will most likely update to fix this, as will other apps.

Another thing you could do after you get a reboot is provide a log. Since you probably don't have adb I'll give you two options including adb if you decide to install later.
    ______________________________________________________________________________________
    In terminal emulator app:

    su
    cat /proc/last_kmsg > /sdcard/kmsg.txt
    _________________________________________________________________________________________________
    In adb shell:

    adb shell
    cat /proc/last_kmsg > /sdcard/kmsg.txt
    _________________________________________________________________________________________________

You should save these commands somewhere you can access them easily. After preforming this task look on you sd card you'll see kmsg.txt

Go to you computer browser and navigate to pastebin.com. There you'll find a window you can paste the log into. Below it there's a submit button. Paste the resulting URL in the respective thread. I hope this helps you. You should not be getting reboots. Especially in a stock Blur rom. We'll help you figure it out :-)

Hemm.... just for you to know, ProyectAOSP ROM should not have ANY reboot at all, check it out! ;)

  • ngiordanongiordano August 2011

Hemm...try using ADW EX then make that statement...

  • DJGHOSTS3V3NDJGHOSTS3V3N August 2011

    Hemm....hello @ngiordano.

  • ngiordanongiordano August 2011

    lol

  • troutslayermvtroutslayermv August 2011

When I had the stock 2.1 I had the same issue, sometimes it would even reboot in the middle of a call! I had the DC issues when I first started flashing roms but I figured it out :-) and so will you. All the guys on this forum are awesome. Anyway if you go to main discussion you will see a thread for superaosp1.0 beta. I love. Cm and the new nightlys are pretty dam stable but I love the super rom. To flash it first drag and drop your whole SD card on to a PC/laptop and go into recovery mode. Now delete dalv/cache. Format SD card and sdext then format system and and then click system restore. Now any old junk should be gone so install the rom and after setting it up take what you want from your SD file on your PC/laptop. If its still rebooting then its your phone. Make sure you flash cm7boot.img for better performance ;-) .

  • troutslayermvtroutslayermv August 2011

Dc is supposed to be fc lol dam. Auto correct

  • PavieePaviee August 2011

No, my phone never rebooted before rooting. Now that it is rooted, it tends to reboot, depending on the rom i use. What is overclocking and how does it improve my phone? I don't think its a hardware issue because I looked at other discussions on here and google'd about the problems my rom/phone has and there are solutions, I just dont understand it all lol I just need step by step directions because I don't want to screw up my phone. Like I said I'm new to rooting phones so its a bit confusing. What should I try first? Overclocking or finding a new rom? Is ProyectAOSP ROM good or is ADW EX better? Thanks so much for your help guys! :)

  • ngiordanongiordano August 2011

No, overclocking is actually bad. It degrades your CPU. I have reports of ADW EX causing rebooted also. It seems to be incompatible with 2.3.5 ROMs

  • troutslayermvtroutslayermv August 2011

The cliqs processor runs at around 500 MHz. With the cm7 rom and an app on the market you can set your CPU speed to run as high as 748 MHz and that is overclocking

  • troutslayermvtroutslayermv August 2011

500 MHz is the Max its mentioned to run overclocking will make it unstable and cause it to reboot

  • troutslayermvtroutslayermv August 2011

If I were you I would fallow my instructions above and flash cm7 from the rom manager. You can find it on the market but again, I am a fan of super android and haven't had any issues yet. Just sayin

  • troutslayermvtroutslayermv August 2011

Also i have found if you dont fully wipe you will have fc, reboots and laggy choppy scrolling. So as i was told wipe wipe wipe! Lol sounds to me like your getting a bad flash

  • PavieePaviee August 2011

lol thanks. How do i fully wipe? after I do that, then i will install(or is it flash?) the superosr on my cliq.

  • jethro650jethro650 August 2011

Step 1-->download this onto your sd card
    http://www.mediafire.com/?x4dteoqsonzkr9n
Step 2-->dowload prefered ROM to your sd card
Step 3-->reboot into recovery(hold camera button and push power button, volume down when blue screen comes up)
Step4-->from recovery menu select wipe all or wipe data factory reset depending on recovery and wipe dalvic cache
Step5-->choose install zip from sd and choose file you dl'd in step 1(superwipe zip)<--this will format and clean what needs to be cleaned<br />Step6-->choose install zip from sd and choose ROM zip from step2
Step7-->reboot phone and reset up phone/reinstall apps.
This will get you a fresh clean install of your choosen ROM that should work properly. If you would like before you do step 3 you could get mybackup root from market and back up your apps bookmarks, texts and such and then go back to market after install of ROM reinstall mybackup root and restore all saved stuff but, DO NOT restore system data or android home. Just use it for apps, texts, phonbook, etc.

This is how I do a fresh install and has worked every time. I don't think I missed any steps...anyone care to confirm or add?

  • troutslayermvtroutslayermv August 2011

Sounds about right to me. The more you flash the easier it gets.

  • jethro650jethro650 August 2011

Yes, the steps become almost automated and you don't even really think about it lol.
After you get your ROM installed let us now which one you chose and I am sure someone will point out any tweaks or tips that go with it.
Something I forgot to mention...if yoiu back up/restore apps and you are coming from a 2.1 ROM and going to a 2.2 or 2.3 ROM some apps may not work properly, you may have to look for an updates version in the market. Same holds true if you are moving between any big android version ROMs. 2.2-->2.3 or backwards 2.3-->2.1....you get the picture lol...

  • PavieePaviee August 2011

awesome, thanks jethro! Im gonna do the steps u said. Also, somebody suggested i use the superOSR rom but under requisites it says to: Be rooted (Use SuperOneClick) and Have a CWM Recovery (use my "1-click Recovery Flasher" aplication if you don't know how to do flash it). What are these? I dont know how i rooted my phone, my cousin did it for me and idk if he used superoneclick. I have no idea what a recovery flasher is so can anyone help me understand this, please?

  • troutslayermvtroutslayermv August 2011

OK lets take this slow and easy. Your rooted so that's good . Go to the market and download rom manger. For now just get the free one. Now click the top where it says clockwork mod to update clockwork. Now all you need is right here in this app as a newbie this is the way to go. Click download rom and pick one and fyi if you download one from this forum rom manager can still install it. Rom manager is the key tho. It notifies you of updates and flashes roms easy peasy :-) why don't you just download jaydubs rom from rom manager I did yesterday omg it rocks!! So stable and smooth

  • troutslayermvtroutslayermv August 2011

I suggested superaosp jaydubs is better I'm also using honeycomb 3d(its in the market. Open it in theme Chooser that comes with the rom) all I can say is wow. Its beautiful, fast, smooth dam near perfect!

  • jethro650jethro650 August 2011

I haven't used ROM Manager in awhile so I'm wondering if it does a clean install which is needed in this case because of the reboots. I know it will wipe dalvic but I think more is needed. 1-click recovery flasher is an app that automates flashing different recoveries.
Your already rooted so don't worry about that.
Sorry troutslayermv not trying to start an argument here but for this flash I think he would be better off following my directions only installing adlx's 1-Click Recovery Flasher and choosing clockworkmod4.0.1.0 recovery first then follow my guide, after that ROM Manager would make things easier to update his chosen ROM. I just think a really clean install is needed for him to get started.
This is just my opinion and like I said...not trying to start an argument.

  • jethro650jethro650 August 2011

Oh and honeycomb3d is an awesome theme, use that one myself lol.

  • PavieePaviee August 2011

okay...so what do i do? lol I'm already so thats done. Now i need to do what exactly before i super wipe? Or do i do all the things you guys said after i super wipe? :-?

  • PavieePaviee August 2011

I thought u said superaosp is better? lol so jaydubs is the way to go? where can i find it?

  • jethro650jethro650 August 2011

Do you know what rcovery you have right now?

  • PavieePaviee August 2011

i meant to write already rooted* lol but no, i dont even know what a recovery is haha sorry #-O

  • jethro650jethro650 August 2011

    Ok here we go:
all three roms are hosted on this sire, superaosp, jaydubs, and cm7, read up on them and choose one, dont worry you will be able to change at any time, try all three if you want but for now choose one and download it to your sdcard along with the superwipe.zip.
    Then:
1-->open 1-click recovery flasher and download and install clockworkmod 4.0.1.0, should be top of list.
2-->in that app at the bottom should be a reboot into recovery option, do that
3-->now you have just done step 3 in the above tutorial I gave you, follow the rest of the steps.
Now you should have a clean install of whichever ROM you choose.
Now, being the first to admit I am not perfect, I have missed an important step, if you install cm7 you will also have to install google apps called gapps for short, there is a link to it in the first post of the cm7 thread, download it and put it on your sdcard. Immediately after install the cm7 rom install the gapps befpre rebooting.
I am sorry I forgot this step, so follow this
1 install recovery flasher and flash clockworkmod 4.0.1.0
    2 boot into recovery
3 make a nandroid backup(choose backup and restore, then backup)let this finish
4 back to main menu in recovery
5 choose wipe data factory reset
6 choose install zip from sdcard
7 choose "choose zip from sdcard"
8 find and choose superwipe zip(if you downloaded from your phone then it will be in the download/ file, if you put it on your sdcard from your computer it's probably not in a folder, use the volume up and down buttons to scroll and home button to select
9 when thats done back to main menu and choose install zip from sdcard again
10 choose "choose zip from sd card
11 find and choose ROM zip you downloaded
    12 return to main menu
13 if you choose to install cm7(not sure about the others) use steps 9 and 10 and find gapps and install those
    and finally
14 reboot phone and set up
After your phone is set up and apps reinstalled then reboot into recovery and choose advanced and choose fix permissions(optional, but will probably fix any force closes you have and prevent them also)
Seems like a lot but once you do it a couple times it gets less and less complicated and going from one version of a ROM to a newer version of the SAME ROM you will most likely only need to wipe dalvic cache, but we will get into that later...

Also after signing into Google reboot once again after the circle of arrows in the status bar goes away. If you are not signing into Google yet reboot after 10 min. Do not change any settings or set anything up during this time.
